Preparation: |
| A
clean, dry, dull surface is optimal for painting. Wash
your walls with mild soap and rinse thoroughly. Scrape
any loose paint, patch any holes, and sand smooth. Remove
dust with a vacuum or tack cloth. WARNING! Removal
of old paint by sanding, scraping, or other means may
generate dust or fumes that contain lead. Exposure to
lead dust or fumes may cause brain damage or other adverse
health effects, especially in children or pregnant women.
Controlling exposure to lead or other hazardous substances
requires the use of proper protective equipment, such
as a properly fitted respirator (NIOSH-approved) and
proper containment and cleanup.
For more information, call the National Lead Information
Center at 1-800-424-LEAD (in U.S.) or contact your local
health authority. |

Step 1
Mask ceilings, baseboards, and trim with painter's tape.
Paint the wall with your desired basecoat color and allow
to dry completely (minimum 4 hours or overnight).
Step 2
Mix one part illusions® Translucent Metallic
Finish to one part illusions® Faux Finish Latex Glazing
Liquid™. Apply this metallic glaze over your basecoat
using ragging, combing, or your favorite illusions®
effect. Ragging Tip
Roll or form your rag into your desired shape. Soak it
with metallic glaze, and blot the excess on a paper towel.
Dab the rag repeatedly on the wall, overlapping each impression
and rotating your hand at the wrist for a seamless look.
Combing Tip
After rolling on a 3-foot-wide metallic glaze
coat, lightly drag a combing tool through it in one continuous
stroke from ceiling to floor. Apply even pressure, and
keep the tool angled toward you, wiping excess glaze from
the comb after each stroke to maintain a clean edge.
Optional Technique
illusions® Translucent Metallic Finish is
also ideal when used as a glaze with other illusions®
Faux Finish effects like sponging or ragging.
Optional Step 3
Think outside the four-wall box. Apply gold or silver
illusions® Translucent Metallic Finish to mantels,
trim, furniture, and accessories to create a luxuriously
opulent touch. |
