Preparation: |
| A
clean, dry, dull surface is optimal for painting. Wash
your walls with mild soap and rinse thoroughly. Scrape
any loose paint, patch any holes, and sand smooth. Remove
dust with a vacuum or tack cloth.
WARNING! Removal of old paint by sanding, scraping,
or other means may generate dust or fumes that contain
lead. Exposure to lead dust or fumes may cause brain
damage or other adverse health effects, especially in
children or pregnant women. Controlling exposure to
lead or other hazardous substances requires the use
of proper protective equipment, such as a properly fitted
respirator (NIOSH-approved) and proper containment and
cleanup.
For more information, call the National Lead Information
Center at 1-800-424-LEAD (in U.S.) or contact your local
health authority.

Step 1
Mask ceilings, baseboards, and trim with painter's tape.
With a brush, cut in an 18-inch section along the edge
of the ceiling and wall with illusions® SoftSuede™
finish. Then texture the wet finish with the 4-inch Specialty
Edge Roller, using a thick coating for best results. Continue
rolling with the 9-inch Specialty Roller in 18-inch x
18-inch sections, reloading your roller for each section.
Step 2
As soon as you complete an 18-inch floor-to-ceiling
column, roll over it lightly without reloading the roller.
Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you've covered the entire
room, and allow to dry at least four hours. This first
coat will look uneven.
Step 3
With a 3-inch latex paint brush, apply a SoftSuede™
topcoat using large, overlapping, random "X"
strokes. Be sure to blend your strokes for a softly
mottled effect.
