Check for Mold and Mildew
It
is quite common for mold and mildew to form on
your log home real estate each year. You should
inspect your log home annually to make sure your
home is secure and in good shape. Check out the
corners of your home for any rotting or log home
mold. The most important structural parts of your
log home construction is the corners and you want
to make sure they are well-maintained. Inspecting
and maintaining your home is part of annual log
home costs.
Look at the Roof
Inspect the roof of your log home, including
the ties inside your home and the upper parts
of your interior walls. Look to make sure the
wood is settling evenly and that there are no
major swags in the upper parts of your home and
its support beams. It is not uncommon for log
homes to have severe deterioration on the upper
beams and require replacement.
Doors and Windows
You’re looking at how the wood is settling
around your doors and windows. The wood should
be settling evenly, allowing you to open and close
your windows and doors rather seamlessly. Make
sure the areas around your doors and windows are
properly sealed to keep insects and moisture out.
Once you’ve inspected your home, it’s
kind of like a log home insurance policy that
protects your investment.
