What are roof coatings?
A
roof coating is a monolithic, fully adhered, fluid
applied roofing membrane. It has elastic properties
that allows it to stretch and return to their
original shape without damage.Typical roof coating
dry film thickness vary from paint film thickness
(plus or minus 3 dry mils) to more than 40 dry
mils. This means a roof coating actually becomes
the top layer of a composite roof membrane and
underlying system. As such, the roof coating is
the topmost layer of protection for the membrane,
receiving the impact of sunlight (both infrared
and ultraviolet (UV), rain, hail and physical
damage.
Elastomeric coating that provides the ultimate
in reflectivity, color stability and weather resistance
over new or existing roof surfaces. Although it
is highly flexible, it exhibits a tough, enamel-like
finish that resists abrasion, biological growth,
dirt, oil and all types of weather extremes. Metal
roof coatings and painting
are uniquely developed to withstand the harsh
treatment that weather, salt spray and ultra-violet
degradation can inflict on a metal roof and other
steel structures. Most all high quality roof paints
and coatings are mold and mildew resistant. Metal
roofs have been known to last hundreds of years
with proper maintenance
Benefits
Field-applied reflective roof coatings can extend
the useful life of nearly every roof substrate
by keeping a roof surface cool and providing a
level of protection from the sun and weather.
Field studies have shown that a reflective roof
coatings can lower rooftop temperatures and reduce
airconditioning bills.

Quick Guide
How
to Paint Metal Roofs
Preparation will vary depending on if your roof
has been previously coated or painted before
Powers wash the entire surface, scrape and sand
all the loose paint and glossy areas
Apply the proper rust inhibiting primer on rusted
areas
Examine gutter supports and surrounding areas
they may need coated with an acrylic coating and
a high strength stitch-bonded reinforcement fabric
Metal roofs should be painted or coated with
a specially formulated acrylic latex roofing material,
which initiates a tight bond to metal and becomes
a flexible coating. After priming over rusted
areas, metal putty where needed and apply two
finish coats
