Quick
Guide How to Paint Wood Trim
1. Prep Woodwork: Sand, de-gloss, and or wash
with TSP. Paint does not adhere well to glossy
surfaces, dirt, or grease and grime.
2. Remove and or protect items like door handles,
hardware, use blue tape where necessary.
3. Wood fill and sand areas where needed, calk
where needed.
4.
Apply Paint: With all the prep work done, applying
the paint is the easy part. Load the brush fully
by dipping one-third of the bristles in paint
and tapping the brush on the side of the can to
remove excess. Only occasionally will you need
to wipe the brush on the edge of the can. Unload
the paint from one side of the brush with one
long stroke; and unload the other side on the
return trip starting where the first stroke stopped.
Cut in by varying the pressure you apply on the
brush as you carefully but confidently move along
the edge of the adjacent surface. Brush out only
as needed to level and even the finish and complete
each area with a long, light finishing stroke.
Begin the next stroke by brushing toward the just-applied
paint.
